For all the same reasons that your pet’s PCV might be low. It is also possible for red blood cells to carry less than their normal amount of hemoglobin. That is reflected in a blood tests that measure average red blood cell hemoglobin concentration (MCHC).
For all the same reasons that your pet’s PCV might be high.
Sluggish blood flow throughout the body - as occurs in advance heart disease can also raise hemoglobin levels.
Heinz bodies, fatty blood samples (lipemia) and other blood turbidity problems (cloudiness) can cause blood hemoglobin levels to be falsely measured as high.
If your dog is a sight hound, such as a greyhound, its hemoglobin levels will normally be high (ref) .
