Techniques used to neuter pets differ in different parts of the World. In Europe, it is quite common for veterinarians to only remove the dog or cat's ovaries and leave its uterus and fallopian tubes intact (in place). My illustration is as the surgery is most commonly done in the USA and Canada. It does not appear that that the European technique leads to any more complications than the way the surgery is generally done Stateside. (ref)
